ThermoFlashShot

A New Technology against Antimicrobial Resistant and Biofilm Infections

VHIR

TRL: 1-3
Ongoing

We have developed a new treatment and prevention paradigm against Antimicrobial Resistant (AMR) and device-related biofilm infections. AMR is an economic and health crisis at global scale, and currently claim at least 50,000 lives yearly across EU and US; with an estimated cost of 1.5 billion/yr in EU. In addition, there is a lack of new antibiotics in development. Some authorities warm us about a post-antibiotic era
The therapy consists on a combination of two technologies. On one hand, the thermotherapy nanoantibiotic (ThermoShot) are silver (Ag) or gold (Au) nanoparticle (Np), which allow the attachment of antibiotics at Np surface, working as hyperthermia agent targeted by thermotherapy. On the other hand, FlashShot allows us to create in situ HOCl, enhancing this way our blood’s neutrophil natural defensive function. The objectives for the valorization project include the development of the final prototype and its preclinical validation. In parallel, valorization activities (market analysis, regulatory approval plan) will be carried out to build the ThermoShot/FlashShot business case. These technologies may involve cost savings for public Health Systems in Health-Acquired Infections, estimated in €7 billion per year in EU ThermoShot/FlashShot is a new technology, hitherto nonexistent, developed by clinicians to clinicians, counting also with the knowledge and participation of the relevant experts in industrial design, business development, and relevant stakeholders

The stage of development of the project is TRL3. The Proof of Concept has validated that the two technologies can kill in vitro effectively and quickly high concetracions of highly resistant bacteries like P.aeruginosa, K.pneumoniae and One.baumanii and biofilms of Pseudomonas.
